Mountain Pepper (Tasmannia lanceolate) leaf is a wonderful spice to add to your kitchen condiments. The leaf has a delightful hot pepper/chilli flavor that lingers as an aftertaste – we call it botanical heat !
This spice can be used in any dish savoury or sweet for a flavour boost. We add it to ground lemon myrtle leaf and use as a rub or marinade for roasting meats and vegetables. Add it to vinegrettes and sauces, curries, cheeses and oils. Try adding some to your favourite chocolate recipe – a great combination.
Mountain Pepper leaf is very high in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and lutein. For example, the leaf compared to blueberry has 9 times the antioxidants, 10 times the vitamin A, 12 times the calcium and 5 times the iron. The leaves are also highly antimicrobial and therefore could be beneficial to human health by assisting in keeping a healthy microbial balance in the human gut.
