Native Foods Cooking Class held August 19 2018

My daughter Sam and I attended a Cookery class yesterday to learn more about the use of Native Food Plants. It was four hours of absolute bliss. Julie not only took us on a stroll through the gardens to touch and smell and collect produce for our class, but we then set about using the product in 10 or so dishes. We made savoury, sweet and everything in between. As well as the cookery class, we learnt about the importance of selecting the right plants to use. I would highly recommend the day.

Book Review

Hi Julie and Anthony,

I wanted to congratulate you guys on the book. As an ex landscaper, home gardener, long time scholar and devotee of all things bush food [ both food wise and philosophically]… I think the book is beaut and find myself nodding effusively as I read it. At long last someone has nailed it for this part of the world – and you are the nailer. Bravo.

Private Birthday Party booked at The Schoolhouse

Dear Julie & Anthony,

A very big thank you for helping to make my birthday party very special. So many people came up to me to talk about the excellent Australian food, the garden and interesting place you have. I felt I was in very capable hands which allowed me to enjoy the day and the company of my friends. Everything was perfect, it really was, and it could not have been better.

Big hugs, Sue. July 2018

Events and Classes

We had a super weekend and do hope to make it back for another visit …AND another wonderful lunch or dinner. Your setting with the schoolhouse is just so special and it is wonderful for you and your family to have this precious association with it being your childhood schoolhouse. Yes I did look at The Haven ….definitely very spacious and comfortable and a ‘must stay’ for our next family visit. Again I love it that it was your family home Julie.
Overall Peppermint Ridge Farm is a unique experience and a great chance to learn about bush foods of which the average person has no idea of the extent of their exceptional nutritional value…I am having withdrawal symptoms for your anise myrtle ice cream!
Do wish you both great times ahead for Peppermint Ridge Farm….keep on being as passionate as you are with what you do and again if any of the above can be of help for the website please use.
Thank you both for a much enjoyed last minute getaway ….we never envisaged we were in for such a treat!!
Kind Regards, Margaret

Thank you for having us for lunch on Mother’s Day. It was so amazing to wander around your native food garden and then to be able to enjoy the beautiful food that you and Anthony prepared for us. All of us really enjoyed the day, with many comments on the way home about how wonderful it was, and such a beautiful way to celebrate the day. We will definitely come for some of your cooking classes. You have so much knowledge and passion about Australian plants that it is infectious. I look forward to cooking with the plants that you have grown in your nursery that I will plant in my own garden. Thank you again for your generous hospitality and willingness to share your beautiful property with us.
Regards, Tanja H

Year 11 Indigenous Foods Workshop

I would like to thank you for allowing Julie Weatherhead to take a class on bush foods for our Unit 1 Food Technology class. It was sensational!

The students made fresh leafed lemon myrtle biscuits and were shown how to make a native spinach pesto. Both were delicious recipes. We went through about six other bush plants and indulged our senses.

Not only did the students learn about these plants and that we were growing them in our College garden but I learnt so much also. It was a great pd for me.
So thank you once again. It was very rewarding and informative. The students got a lot out of it and I will be visiting Julie over the Christmas break. It was good to make the connection.

Warm Regards,
Anne Campbell, Home Economics Teacher.
